Who’s got the melons?
It’s produce season; the weather across the United States continues to warm and the harvests from South America and Mexico have become yesterday’s news.
The question is, will produce season save reefer carriers?
The SONAR chart above shows refrigerated rejections in color. The darker blue markets are showing very tight capacity.
The elevation in the chart shows volumes of refrigerated loads. Notice that the larger volume markets are not having a capacity issue? The produce behemoths are sucking the capacity from the smaller markets to a degree.
Reefer rejections and rates continue to decline as produce ripens. Will we see a seasonal trend of tightening capacity and rate leveling?
It would be a lot cooler if we did.
Peace and love.
