When you get asked one of the “What’s your favorite thing” questions, it can either be easy or start a serious thought process. For drivers, it is this question that can go over nicely, or cause the pitchforks and torches to be brought out.
I’m a Western Star man myself
If you want to start a good conversation with a trucker, ask what his favorite truck brand is. It will either go well and you’ll learn a lot about trucks – or you’ll get socked in the mouth for being a sinner.
Here in the USA, it’s usually either Freightliners, Kenworths, or Peterbilts. Over across the ocean, you’ll hear brands like Hino, Scania, MAN and Volvo.

Older drivers will call out exact specifications and the month that particular model was built and at the specific plant. There are also certain models that will get you called out on the floor for even mentioning.
There’s a favorite for all vocations
There are trucks that perform better than others in certain roles. Many drivers will claim one brand for their over-the-road needs and another for their job site. Some brands take vocational work more seriously than others.
I have placed some polls over on social media, and gathered some information from others that have asked the hard-hitting question of “What’s your favorite?”
I’ll write a follow-up after the timers end next Friday. It’ll be interesting to see the difference in how platforms perform.
