These Cajuns never seem to disappoint. At 3:30 a.m. Sunday, May 22, two of the bayou’s finest set out to move a very big house. These guys had already been told by the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office that they needed permits to move the over-width, over-height, and overweight home.
But being the smart guys that they are, they decided that they knew better. They proceeded to move the house in the middle of the night, when they thought no one would notice. That’s when the gator poop hit the fan.
They guys tore up everything. I mean everything! The house, the trees, mailboxes, the power lines to about 700 homes. The chaos was so intense, they had to abandon the house on a two-path road and forget about it. Well, the Sheriff’s Office was not pleased about this.
Both men, Tony Domingue, 46, and Nico Comeaux, 32, had the book thrown at them. Charges so far are Obstruction of Parish Ordinance, Obstruction of Highway Commerce, and Criminal Damage to Property. And law enforcement is still adding up what else they have done. Both were booked into the Iberia Parish Jail with $125,000 bonds.
Yeah, there’s a bunch of laws involved when moving a house. Always use trained house movers that are permitted to do that kind of work. They know what they’re doing, even if it costs a good chunk of money to get it done. Do not go calling your cousin Boudreaux and using the rickshaw hay trailer to move a two-story, 100-year-old big country house. It’s not going to end well.
