The great wait is shifting to the railheads!
Wait times have more than doubled since March 31st at many rail yards. I’m picking on Elizabeth, New Jersey, in particular, as the SONAR chart below shows wait times at Elizabeth are the highest of those yards measured.
Wait times at Elizabeth have soared 105%. While this is the highest wait time, it, unfortunately, isn’t that uncommon across the nation’s railyards.
Recent reports indicate that inventory bloat is causing slower chassis turn times at railyards and there are grumblings of imposing fines – much like the ports attempted to do in the past.
I’m told it is so bad that some would rather wait in line at the port! Okay, that might not be entirely true, but…
If Joey Chestnut was in Elizabeth, he would have enough time to eat 1,050 hot dogs while waiting!
