Jason and Kerry Kraft, a team of truckers that recently made news by announcing they were shuttering their business, joins the BTU Podcast this week. Jason tells the guys about how the downturn in freight rates and a parts shortage forced them to close down.
After a problem with their 2019 Freightliner Cascadia forced them into the shop for over a month, and finding out said shop was “throwing parts at the truck,” Jason and Kelly had to make the tough decision to bail the truck out of the shop and sell it at auction.
On top of that, the crash of freight rates from record highs to “minimum wage” added to the pressures piling on top of them. Jason is now working a 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. job as well as working in an oil field on weekends.
The Kraft’s comment on “What is cheap freight?” and how anyone who hauls it just to move into a better lane is not helping the situation. They comment on the COVID exemptions larger companies get, but the smaller companies aren’t able to use.
