To some, Alvin Areas is a true hero deserving of a great deal of praise. To others, he is seen as a glory hound who posed for a photo op before starting the rescue of a truck driver. But no matter how you slice up the video, he saved a fellow trucker whose truck overturned after being slammed by tornado-force winds that blew through Tennessee’s I-24 last week.
Kids always wanting to “get their ‘grams”
If you listen closely, one might make out the word go at the start of the video that I provided a link to above. That use of the word “go” has triggered many viewers of the TikTok video. Some even shake their fist saying it was staged for personal gain.
Areas went on The Asian Mai Show with Alex Mai to tell his story and face the critics. Areas spoke about how he had his nephew with him and it was the nephew behind the camera.
His nephew is the one who posts the videos and really does not have that much of a social media presence. That is different now with the rescue video going viral with over 10 million views.
All critics aside, Areas – and the other rescuers – should be commended for their bravery in harsh conditions. It was a group effort and I know the driver is glad that there were plenty of Good Samaritans around.
