2023 is starting off great for truckers trying their luck on games of chance as we have another driver picking up a load of cash from a lottery ticket. Trucker Michael Allen was traveling Wednesday, Jan. 27, through Alexandria, Kentucky, a suburb southeast of Cincinnati along U.S. Highway 27, when he decided to go buy some tickets from the local Safeway fuel stations.

According to an article by Fox56News.com, Allen had made a few stops trying his luck, just scratching off the barcodes on the ticket to get a quick scan when the cashier said that he needed to contact the “KLC.” What does Kentucky Fried Chicken have to do with this?,” said Allen, cracking a joke to bystanders.

Allen’s prize was too big to be paid out by the Safeway fuel station, and he still didn’t know his prize. So he took it to the lottery machine and scanned it himself. “I took a picture of it three times because I was afraid it would go away,” Allen said.

Michael Allen had hit the jackpot, scratching off the grand prize of either $870,000 cash or $50,000 a year for 20 years. Allen took the lump cash payout, receiving $622,765 after taxes.
“It won’t change a thing,” he said when lottery officials asked about how they plan to use the money. “We’ll still work, and life will stay the same.”
The Speedway in Alexandria will also receive $10,000 for selling the winning ticket. Kentucky Lottery proceeds to fund college scholarships and grant programs across the Commonwealth, including every dime of the popular KEES program.
