Joshua Harris, from Cardington, Ohio, was recently named a Truckload Carriers Association Highway Angel for rushing to the aid of a fellow trucker having a stroke while driving. Harris is a driver for Scotts Miracle-Gro who was having a day out with his family when a fellow driver called him in severe distress.
Around 4 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2022, Harris’ co-worker Dusty called him from the side of the road outside Mount Vernon, Ohio. Dusty was in extreme pain, vomiting, and confused outside of the truck in the cold rain.
Harris was 30 minutes away at the Columbus Zoo, where he was able to reach his friend just minutes after an Ohio State Trooper had arrived. As they waited for the ambulance to arrive, Harris safely parked and secured Dusty’s truck.
He then followed the ambulance to the hospital, where doctors determined Dusty had suffered a stroke. Thankfully, Dusty was released from the hospital the next day.
“I wanted to know what was going on. I care about the guy. Thankfully it turned out well,” Harris told the TCA in an interview. Drivers should be conscientious of their fellow drivers.
If you see a driver in distress, check up on them. You may never know if they are in serious danger and could save their life.
