A city-block wide fire in Aguascalientes, Mexico went viral over the weekend, as its cause was disputed. Rumors began of the cargo train in the footage hitting an oil tanker truck, but Reuters News says that the tanker struck an overpass, rupturing and spilling its cargo over two sets of railroad tracks.
1,500 people evacuated as flames engulfed cars and homes
Two hundred firefighters helped by PEMEX, the state-owned oil company, were working to evacuate the residents of nearby buildings and to head off the advancing flames. Multiple people were sent to area hospitals for exposure and smoke/fumes inhalation.
PEMEX denies owning the tanker that was involved in the incident. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the incident. The truck driver of the tanker was taken into police custody.
