“The desired effect is what you get when you improve your interplanetary funkmanship.”

No, not that mothership connection!
My argumentative nature is bad at times and uncontrollable at others. The opposite side is the one I usually take. No, it does not matter what this side is, I’m going to take the other.
It’s fun at times and leads to interesting conversations, excepting those instances where I can find no evidence for my side and have to make shit up that can easily be defeated.
I am finding it more and more difficult these days to argue against autonomous vehicles. Not that I was actually against them. I just like caution when moving into obviously history-making disruptive technology or legislation. Let’s try and think things through before we screw things up.
It’s not like we have a good track record for decision-making.
Like eliminating single-use plastic bags in New Jersey without planning on how food delivery is going to operate with reusable bags that are by law not allowed to be reused for food.
Uhmm…..Or mandating electric vehicles in a state that restricts charging of EVs and use of air conditioning.
Slopes are better when navigated with a plan and a healthy dose of fear. That’s all I’m saying.
I am certain AVs are not necessary at this time and would never be if there wasn’t an insatiable human desire to compete and grow in terms of influence and finance. The outcomes are mostly negative. War, for example. Trade or otherwise.
Don’t tell me population explosion. It isn’t. Exploding that is. It’s dropping. And, that’s not an excuse either. If you’re thinking baby boomers, too late.
Of course, I do think that the tech will make life better if done correctly and with sanity as a guide.
However, as reported in this article by New Atlas, as cool as this autonomous mothership seems, it is not likely that sanity was or is employed in its development. I’m pretty certain that fair world trade and economics have nothing to do with it either.
A fully autonomous ship complete with an automated deck that can deploy any type of autonomous water, air, or land craft.
Hmm…What could we use an autonomous aircraft carrier loaded with autonomous land and aircraft for?
I know! We could make intermodal shipping more efficient.
Peace and love.
