The question “What is going on here?” has been said way too often this week in the BTU newsroom. A pair of catastrophic incidents where there are more questions than answers currently lead the headlines.
A tractor-trailer “gator rolls” off overpass and explodes in mid-air
A truck traveling down US 75 Expressway in Allen, Texas was hit by another vehicle, according to news reports from CBSDFW.com Tuesday. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. during the early afternoon rush.
The unnamed truck jumped the guardrail, rupturing its fuel tank and exploded midair before crashing onto Stacy Road below. The driver was killed due to the incident according to police reports.
Driver deceased after driving through median and into oncoming truck
Another driver died when he crossed over the grassy median and hit another driver head on. The incident occured Tuesday at 4 a.m. on I-70 outside Greenfield, Indiana. Greenfield is about a half an hour east of Indianapolis.
Authorities say the driver of the westbound truck (unknown if it was the Target or Old Dominion truck) died, while the eastbound truck driver is hospitalized in critical condition.
I-70 was closed for much of the morning but fully cleared by noon. The detours themselves caused crashes as well, which made bypassing the wreck slow going.
