In an update to the article Back The Truck Up published on October 18, the Teamsters Local 653 in Plympton, Massachusetts have ratified their deal with Sysco Corporation. The ratification comes after police arrested and charged 20 members of the union with disorderly conduct and other offenses for blockading the road and allowing workers to leave the facility during shift change.

$11 per hour raise over contract term, overtime improvements, and other benefits won by negotiators

It was a hard fought victory, according to the comments made after the Teamsters Local 653 union members ratified their new contract terms. The vote went 215-2, a resounding majority of the over 300 member strong group.

This morning #Teamsters at Sysco Boston voted in favor of a record-breaking agreement, ending the #strike with a resounding victory for more than 300 members of Local 653 in Plympton, MA.

Sysco also agreed to withdraw all pending litigation against Teamster locals. #1u 2/4

Benefits in the new contract are an $11 dollar an hour pay raise, over the length of the deal, improvements in healthcare plans, additional retirement benefits, and adding Martin Luther King Day as a paid holiday.

This is the second strike in the Northeast that Teamsters have called against Sysco to end with new contracts. Teamsters Local 317 in Syracuse ratified their new 5-year contract on Monday, Oct. 17.

John Kingston, executive editor and oil markets expert, has an article on FrieghtWaves.com with more details on the Teamsters/Sysco negotiations.
