Firefighters are working to locate and cool off hotspots after a massive blaze erupted from inside a warehouse at the Carus Chemical Plant in La Salle, Illinois. Crews from several fire stations rolled out to help contain the four-alarm fire from spreading to neighboring homes.
A tanker driver for Quality Carriers was at the scene when the fire broke out. He was able to flee to safety on foot as explosions began to occur inside the warehouse his truck was offloading into.
Carus Chemical Plant creates and sells chemicals and products that clean the air, water, and soil using potassium permanganate, phosphates, and other atmospheric scrubbers. They also handle food sanitation and environmental remediation products.
The fire was contained at around 12:30 p.m. Central and crews are working to locate the source of the fire. Residents were ordered to shelter in place during the event due to noxious fumes and debris from the explosions.
