“Dropicana,” the codename for the road construction going on at the Southbound I-15 and East Tropicana Interchange, hits a major point in the timeline as a weekend-long closure of the interstate is upon us. From 10 p.m., Jan. 27 to Jan. 30 at 5 a.m., I-15 will be closed in both directions between Russell & Flamingo.
The closure is part of an 18-month-long redesign project by the Nevada Department of Transportation to modernize the entrance ramps to the Las Vegas Strip. The widened ramps would set the stage for further improvements to the world-famous roadway.
Trucks should take extreme caution when and if they pass through Las Vegas over the weekend. Detours and bypasses will be marked on overhead signs and stationary displays.
For up-to-date information, the Nevada DOT asks drivers to use the proper navigation app for their needs. If driving a commercial vehicle, use commercial driving apps such as TruckerPath and Hammer. As a backup, Waze and Google Maps can be used to watch for traffic conditions and updates on detours.
