A quick message about the Memorial Day holiday and trucking
Here’s a little known fact to those outside the world of heavy hauling. You can’t permit loads on federal (and some state) holidays. Since the permitting agency, state police, and some other organizations are closed, they do not allow you to work either. That makes planning for holidays extremely important. You want to make sure you are in a safe haven and are not in any way the cause of an incident.
With Memorial Day coming up, a lot of traffic is expected on the roads this year. Here is a list I found of roads closed to heavy hauls for Memorial Day. I’d expect all of the professional drivers to be situated in front of a grill or TV at the hotel. But there’s always going to be that one who has not planned his/her trip and gets caught outlawing something they’re not supposed to. Please don’t be the subject of my next “What The Cluck.”
