On June 27, Back The Truck Up covered the June 25th death of Joey Madeira, a truck driver stabbed and killed by a hitchhiker he was helping out with a ride. Unfortunately, the driver did not know the rider was on the run for two carjacking’s and an armed robbery earlier that same day.
“During the investigation, detectives learned Harley may have been involved in two carjacking’s and a robbery prior to the murder. Harley possibly carjacked a person in Oakland on the night of June 24th. On June 25th, a man matching Harley’s description was involved in a strong-armed robbery at a store in Lost Hills, located in Kern County. Later, another carjacking reportedly took place at a Chevron gas station at I-5 and Stockdale Hwy. in Bakersfield. The owner of the car suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital.”Fresno County Sheriff’s Office
Now, the surviving family members have launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the cost of the burial and other expenses. In the campaign page, his cousin Lizzie Davis described Joey as “a long-haul trucker doing what he needed to do for his family.”
The funds from the GoFundMe account will go to Joey’s mother, who helped care for his kids while he was away. His mom has been the rock of the family and is continuing in that role.

Rest easy Joey, we have your shift!
