Fireside Chat with Rachel Premack and Wayfair
Live from the Future of Supply Chain
Ladies and gentlemen, my last article on Day 1 of the Future of Supply Chain features one of FreightWaves’ Editorial Director, and a friend of BackTheTruckUp, Rachel Premack. She had the honor of having a Fireside Chat with Jack Echeverria, Senior Manager of Global Logistics at Wayfair.
As we all have seen these last few months, global logistics is a real mess. China is closed down. Ships are massing constantly offshore. So logically, shippers are looking for alternative sources of supply.
As someone who also bought some new furniture, you know it wasn’t going to be made at the local carpenter shop. Nope, much of the furniture sold in the United States is made overseas. In fact, Rachel explained her new set of end tables were products of Vietnam.

Many companies are moving their supply chains away from China and looking to other industrial countries, and hopefully near-shoring back into the United States. Product shortages call for swift responses, and “if you have to pull stakes and move, you have to move” to keep the business running.
Many expect a surge to occur when China reopens after the “Zero COVID” event is over. It is going to make for a tedious job monitoring product flows at least past 2023. The big thing is will there be a large enough workforce ready to handle that copious amount of freight? I hope warehouse owners are planning for the flood after the drought. I bet we might have a few companies drowning in freight and therefore not be able to fulfill timetables.
