Human trafficking is a scourge across all of freight culture and Back The Truck Up Podcast will help fight it in any way possible. On this week’s episode, Rooster and Justin join forces with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) and Truckers and Against Trafficking to do our part in the 2023 Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative (HTAI).
Kylla Lanier, deputy director and senior director of public sector engagement at Truckers Against Trafficking, and Jake Elovirta, director of enforcement programs with CVSA, joins the show to talk about events being held around the United States Jan. 9-13. Human trafficking affects many lives, especially those under 18 and from foreign countries.
Lanier explains to the listeners how human trafficking ties into other crimes, such as forced labor, prostitution, kidnapping, and illicit drugs. Elovirta explains how HTAI is not like CVSA’s other events. HTAI is more of an educational and training event whereas events like Brake Safety Week are more focused on inspections and enforcement.
