This week on the BTU Podcast, powered by OTR Solutions, Rooster and Justin welcome Chris Shimoda, the California Trucking Association’s (CTA) Senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs. The U.S. Supreme Court recently declined to hear the appeal of the CTA vs. Bonta (the Attorney General of California). BTU has written an article covering that situation.
Now the ball has been kicked back to the Ninth Circuit Court, where the CTA has a new battle plan. The association plans to argue that the Commerce Clause, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3, of the United States Constitution, which states no laws may be passed that affect interstate commerce. The goal is to show AB5 as being unconstitutional, and have it suspended indefinitely.
The guys also asked Chris his opinion on the situation at California’s ports, and the trouble that the ILWU and BLET unions could possibly cause to the supply chains linked to those ports. Chris also talked about CTA’s continuing work lobbying for improvements for drivers, particularly additional rest area spaces and designated parking areas.
