A trucker is in jail in Villa Ahumada, Mexico, after his rig hit a parked car and slid into a hall of food stands and carts before finally stopping in the front patio of a restaurant.
Mexican jails are not as friendly as the ones in the U.S.
The Attorney General’s Office of Chihuahua has named “Saul A.D.,” a 43-year-old trucker as being behind the wheel when the “Kenworthy” truck he was driving hit a parked car at speed, flipped onto its side, and skidded into a crowd of shoppers.
Saul was on a route from Jaurez to Chihuahua City when the incident occured. Villa Ahumada is 90 miles away from his destination.
Villa Ahumada is somewhat of a tourist attraction, as buses coming from the border usually stop so riders can buy burritos and quesadillas to eat on the road. The tractor-trailer came to rest on the patio of a restaurant called Tejaban Benito Juarez.
Six people were declared dead at the scene, while three more passed away at the local hospital. Saul is being held in custody as investigators continue to investigate the incident.
