The City of Oakland, by way of the Port of Oakland operating authorities, has officially sued the leaders of last week’s AB5 trucker protests. The lawsuit is seeking an immediate temporary restraining order against Enrique Alverez, Prudencio Umana, Navdeep Ngill, Filmon Teklehaimanot, and “Does 1-2000.” “Does 1-2000” represents the unnamed protesters who took part in the protests. An injunction would block further protests on Port of Oakland property and ban the blocking of trucks traversing the port complex.
The ultimate goal of the lawsuit is to ban further protests. Although port authorities are not requesting a specific amount of money to be paid for alleged damages caused by the protesters, two things in the lawsuit caught my eye.

A request for any amount of money the court “deems proper” and an unlimited amount demanded makes for a very scary situation. Now I am not a legal expert, but that would scare me to death if I saw that on a legal document with my name attached.
Was someone following the protesters around?
You can follow this link and review the legal documents submitted for this case. It is very interesting that a private investigator was hired to monitor the protests. That worries me that certain activities that law enforcement would need a court order for could have occurred. I’d padlock the mailbox and trash bin for the foreseeable future.
This is a developing story. Back The Truck Up and FreightWaves are monitoring the legal case as it goes through the judicial process.
