A Merry Trucker Christmas – Trucking below zero

Keeping warm in the worst of winter is something every driver should prepare for. Here are some choices for you to consider.

Winter is here and it is only getting colder. A massive Arctic vortex is headed right down the middle of the United States and bringing some of the coldest temperatures yet.

Having a set of clothing and bedding for that worst case scenario of having to spend the night in a truck with no heat is something no driver wishes for. Unfortunately, that is something we have to plan for, so here are some items you might want to pick up for your favorite driver this Christmas.

RefrigiWear Unisex Iron-Tuff Insulated Coveralls, -50°F Rating

    Image: RefrigiWear | Amazon

Yes, -50 degrees temperatures are something you will never want to face. But if you’re a trucker and there’s a small chance of having to spend time out in sub-zero temperatures, best plan for the worst.

These coveralls by RefrigiWear are some of the best for extreme temperatures. Able to block freezing winds and repel snow and slush, they help prevent frostbite and maintain your body’s core temperature.

Tool Luxe Fuel Filter Wrench Tool

Nothing makes drivers more furious than trying to find the proper filter wrench to fit the one on their truck. The amount of filters changed during the winter is an order of magnitude higher than in the summer.

Contamination of fuel by debris, water from leaky underground fuel tank seals, and, of course, gelling from low temperatures means filters are being changed regularly. This adjustable filter wrench by Tool Luxe is handy in an emergency situation for both you and someone you might come across in a dire situation. While most filter companies have wrenches made for their filters, having a universal option just in case is not a bad idea.

    Buddy Bar Tire Chain Wrench

As much as drivers despise it, you are going to have to throw the tire chains on at some point in your job driving in the snow. Having a nice robust tie chain tightener is great for getting those buckles twisted and locked down.

This Buddy Bar chain wrench helps by giving you a bigger handle to put more leverage than the wrench that comes with the bag. It also helps with feeding the chains between the dual tires when trying to connect them.

Ledge Sports Rocky Gap -20 F Degree XL Oversize Sleeping Bag (90 inch X 40 inch)

    Image: Ledge Sports | Amazon

The worst case scenario: your truck breaks down in the middle of nowhere and it will be a while before help arrives. No motor means no heat and you have to have a sleeping bag to keep warm.

This -20 degree rated sleeping bag from Ledge Sports helps drivers sleep in harsh conditions when the truck is out of service. While we would all prefer a warm cozy bed, sometimes you have to rough it for a while.
