In the latest mass shooting to hit the West Coast, deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at around 2:30 p.m. Pacific Time where they found four people dead and a fifth victim wounded at Mountain Mushroom Farm in Half Moon Bay, California. Officers then found three more dead at Rice Trucking Soil Farm, a trucking and landscaping company about five miles to the south, Sheriff Christina Corpus told a news conference held Monday evening, Jan. 23
Around two hours after first responding to the shootings, a sheriff’s deputy found the suspect, Chunli Zhao, sitting in his car at a sheriff’s outpost. He was taken into custody and a weapon was found in his vehicle.

Three victims at Mountain Mushroom Farm were found in a house on the company premises. Another was discovered lying outside near the house.
No information was released as of writing about why workers at Rice Trucking were targeted in relation to the mushroom farm crime scene. Rice Trucking Soil Farm provides heavy equipment transportation solutions and landscaping material, erosion prevention batting, and sandbags to customers.
The Sheriff’s Office is working with the District Attorney’s Office to interview the suspect and he is cooperating, Sheriff Corpus said.
