Those hoping for a new pair of the latest Air Jordan’s might find their stores a bit empty as looters broke into 20 containers on September 6. Estimates of $800,000 in losses are being thrown about like the empty shoe boxes littering the warehouse grounds.
Now who’ll be dumb enough to sell stolen shoes months before their release?
Plenty of ads are running on Craigslist and other sites now that an estimated 20 trailer loads of the newest Jordans and Nike swag have hit the streets months before their official launch. The Memphis Police say this operation had to have multiple players involved due to the huge amount of stolen loot.
The shocking admission is that Nike’s Memphis distribution center had no cameras on its back lot. Cameras are only rolling on the front face of the building, not where the millions of dollars of street fashion are (or were) kept.
Shoe styles involved in the robbery include Air Jordan 11 Retro “Cherry” and Air Jordan 4 Retro “Canyon Purple.” I’m not a fan of $200 shoes, but these will be a fast mover on the black market.
This incident is still under investigation and no one has been charged as of publishing.
